Strangeness in Red

This seeems like a very strange building to me. Not just the way the picture looks, kind of warpy, but also the doors that are all the way up the building in the center. I wonder what they're for? Imagine walking out of one of them. Plus you can see doors and windows that have been covered up with bricks, a wooden post that's sticking out of the bricks and a cool looking thick glassed multi square window on the ground floor.

James, you pay attention to details. I have to enlarge the photo, poor me and my eyes. I think the building is odd.

This is quite strange indeed. Some sort of wharehouse with the post holding a whinch? The windows/doors just below have different sills.
An external staircase, now gone, connecting everything?
Very interesting image, if you get any answer let us know...

bel angle pour cet immeuble.

That first step is a doozy! How strange that the down spout goes across the top door. There must have been stairs at one time.
I guess it's one way to get rid of unwanted guests.."Just use the back door, Mildred!"

I've been so used to seeing buildings bottom to top angle. This is something really interesting that you've done. Nicely shot!

Terrific image, James.

It is intruiging, yes. I agree with VP that the wooden post is a hoist often seen in warehouse areas. Amsterdam is littered with them. I am a little worried about the placement of the basement doors immediately below.

The colours are spot on to increase our interest. Excellent!!

What a great photo. It does make you wonder, doesn't it? And isn't that what a good photo should do? My first thought was they needed to replace the windows, couldn't afford custom, so went out and bought close out doors instead - but that could be my cheapskate side coming out lol. I'd hate to be staying at that house after a long night on South Street! Kathy

Pretty surreal scene. That door with a water pipe going over it must be a unique sight. Nobody has one like that! A good building for flying superheroes maybe.

James,

I love the strangeness of that building! Did you get up on a roof top to get that shot?

Even with a fire escape staircase apparently missing it would look quite puzzling...

The building must of had a lot of different uses over the years.

A project done with very poor planning to be sure. Love the downspout going over the door. And the one lower window is bricked over as opposed to the upper two. You have to wonder what is inside.

The random doors and windows covered up with bricks do look odd. And I wonder about the reason for the wooden post sticking out...to hang something?

There must have been a iron landing and stairs system at one time...maybe even wooden one and each floor/level was an apartment unit and they used them for living and getting up and down. (A fire destroyed it in the building's past???)It looks very strange now. Thank for visitng Tampa DP and leaving your comment. I appreciate it.

Nice post James!

I agree with Frank. There had to be some type of landing under those doors at one time or maybe they put the doors in with the thought that one day they would build a landing but never did. It is quite interesting and unusual! I hope they have good latches on those doors.

that is weird

What a great shot! The color red is pervasive with good effect. Sure wonder what these were originally. I think the doors indicate, as others have said, a fire escape at one time. Hope they are solidly in place, now, though...I'd get up in the middle of the night and walk right out one of them....

What a fascinating photo!

This is really neat. I too have seen doors like this from time to time, but not so many. In the ones I have seen, there was obviously some sort of landing below, But it's all the odder, since there doesn't seen to be room for landings under some of those doors.

Great shot, colors, etc.

We've a few buildings like this round Worcester. Wondering if this was a bigger building, at one time? That's definitely a hoist arm above the one door there...

I love the color of the building and I love being able to see the tops of some of the other buildings. The building looks, in some ways, kept up with the paint on the doors and windowsills. I wonder what it's used for, if anything.

This is an odd beast to say the least. I thought that maybe you had done something to this for those doors. What's the point of them? FORE!!!! LOL Have a great week :)

Strange, indeed, but I really love it, and your photo's perspective is great.
